Connections to Your Library & Beyond
If you’ve been to the new Southwest branch of the Monroe County Public Library (and if not, what are you waiting for?!) you’ll notice that the sidewalks and road ends as you’re heading west.
A connection is coming! With our votes this week on an $8 million bond, the next phase will move forward. It will feature a wide multi-use trail intersecting with the Clear Creek Trail at Gordon Pike. It will also extend the road so that Gordon Pike to the east will meet up with Fullerton Pike to the west. In between will be a new 524 ft. bridge that will extend the multi-use path and sidewalks.
These big projects improve the quality of life in Monroe County! This connection will make it easier for families to get to good schools. It means that emergency vehicles can get to their destinations faster. It also gives you and your family greater access to Monroe County’s growing trail system connecting farm markets, cafes, and restaurants to natural beauty.
We received feedback from the public that the sidewalks leading to the new library are not very accessible. The forthcoming construction will only complicate that. Councilmember Geoff McKim raised this topic, asking Highway Department Director Lisa Ridge to clarify, which she does here:
This project is called the Fullerton Pike Project Phase III. Here are two helpful documents:
