Peter Iversen Continues to Support an Expanded Convention Center
I continue to support the expansion of the Monroe County Convention Center.
The right people oversee the Capital Improvement Board (CIB). They produce imaginative videos, conceptual drawings and more on their website. You can also find a list of meeting times and locations; the public is welcome!
The time is right for an expansion. Based on public testimony from the experts in the field, leisure travel is down, and business travel is increasing. As evidence of this, more new organizations prefer to have their convention in Monroe County. Also, more organizations select to bring their business back to our wonderful community. Tourism specialists publicly shared these data during the 9/12/2024 Budget Work Session for the County Council.
Anecdotally, I recently experienced this as the President of the Substance Use Disorder Awareness Commission (SUDAC). The recent Monroe County Recovery Summit hosted by SUDAC took up much of the Convention rooms despite being a crowd of only 150 people. Had other groups wanted to use the space, it would have been impossible. This expansion will extend the volume of mid-week visitors who come to this beautiful County where there is so much to do and experience!
