A Vote for Justice

Can Monroe County afford a $225m justice facility?

As President Pro Tempore of the County Council, I argued that restorative justice in Monroe County can only move forward given four points:

1. It it is not appropriate to take a quarter of a billion of taxpayer dollars on the hope and a prayer that the Republican-controlled Indiana legislature is going to fix the mess they created.

2. This project is simply too expensive. We raised this issue on August the 29th.

3. We need to be doing more on treatment. As President of the Substance Use Disorder Advisory Commission I commissioned a report on treatment options. Can you help us write this report; apply for a vacancy today!

4. I’m worried about those experiencing homelessness. I am very proudly a member of the board at Beacon and we just cannot arrest our way out of homelessness.

Conclusion

The biggest point for me is that without legislative action in Indianapolis, Monroe County can't afford a $225m justice facility.
