482 Family Homes Rejected

This past Monday, the Monroe County Board of Commissioners rejected their 482nd home.

Tuesday, I vocalized my position that we need more housing in Monroe County. I offered a comment in the County Council meeting here. In my comments, I referenced fellow Democrat Kamala Harris' housing plan to end the housing shortage by building 3 million new homes, which is the focus of her new 1-minute ad.

We need to rethink our approach to the housing crisis in Monroe County. The harms from NIMBY policies already exist as folks look elsewhere to live, work, and pay taxes. This rethink can take the form of editing the draft County Development Ordinance that positions the county to stagnate residential on the altar of sewer and annexation politics. As elected officials, we should rethink our housing policy and stop playing politics with people’s homes.
